Abstract
The association between serum copper and zinc and age, sex, and cholesterols in randomly selected healthy Korean adult 422 volunteers aged 19-49 were investigated. Subjects have been divided into twenties, thirties and forties group according to
age.
There was no difference between both sexes in serum copper, however, significantly higher in serum zinc in male. The levels of copper was significantly higher in thirties, whereas the level of zinc was significantly higher in twenties in males
only.
There was a positive relationship between copper and copper/zinc ration and age in males only. Serum copper was positively related to triglyceride and cardiac index but negatively correlated to HDL-cholesterol and serum zinc positively related to
triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and cardiac index in males. A positive correlation between zinc and HDL-cholesterol was observed in female. Copper/zinc ratio was negatively related to HDL-cholesterol. Analysis of large
prospective
data
sets is recomended to evaluate the cohort effect on age, food habit and life style.
